"What?"  Madison choked out, tears welling up in her green eyes.  Her husband, Spencer, squeezed her hand for comfort, but she ignored it.  The words that were spoken to her didn't feel true.  How could this happen?  This couldn't be real, could it?  Please tell her it was a joke.

"I'm very sorry, Mrs. Swan.  But it didn't make it."  The doctor in front of her, said, his eyes looming over the clip board in his hands.

Madison's chest heaved with pain, as she tried to think it all over in her head, but it just didn't seem possible.  "Please tell me, you're joking!"  Madison cried, standing up and leaning toward the doctor with crying eyes, in hopes that he would point and laugh at her saying, 'Fooled you!'.

"Madison."  Spencer whispered.  He knew just how much she was feeling.

The doctor turned to her, making his white lab coat sway across the floor.  "I'm afraid when it comes to miscarriages, we, doctors, do not joke around.  I'm very sorry."

"No!  It can't be!"  Madison screamed, raising her hands up and balling her fists with the doctor's lab coat.  "It's a lie!  It's all a lie!"

"Madison, stop!"  Spencer said, standing up and pulling his wife back by her wrists.  But just as soon as he loosened his grip on her wrists, they were back to the doctor.

"You're a liar!  My baby is not dead!"  Madison felt outraged at that moment, even though she knew deep down that it wasn't the doctor's fault for what happened.

"Mrs. Swan, please.  I know what you must be feeling."  The doctor started, but was soon cut off by the angry brunette.

"No!  You don't understand!  You don't know anything!"  Madison yelled in the doctor's face, her grip on his coat even tighter.

"Madison, please let Dr. Thompson go."  Spencer pleaded with caring, blue eyes.

Madison looked at Dr. Thompson and then at her husband, before slowly sinking down to the ground, her head in her hands, and sobbing.

Madison couldn't believe what she was hearing.  This couldn't be happening.  "No.  It is not dead. It's not."  Madison sobbed, putting both hands over her stomach.  She had wanted this baby more than life itself.  She and Spencer had been so excited when she took the test and saw the two pink lines.  They had decided together, that if it was a boy, then he'd be named, 'Daniel', but if it was a girl, than she'd be named, 'Breanna'.  It seemed like all of the books that she bought, all the time she took for when looking at baby catalogs, and everything else she did to prepare for this little ball of joy was all flushed down the toilet.

She sat on the cold floor, still, while Spencer came up to her, crouched down, and started to rub her back, soothingly, in circles.  She knew he wanted this baby just as much as she did.  And now, it was all gone.  Just like that.  As if you were turning off the light in a room; one minute it would be bright the next, it would be dark.  Madison's heartfelt just like the once-lit room.  It felt like she had nothing to live for now.  What could she do, now that everything that she had done for this one baby was gone?

When they got home, everything seemed quiet.  Still.  As if there was nothing living on the Earth at that moment.  The birds didn't chirp, the cat in the window didn't meow; the only thing that could be heard was the soft rustle of the leaves as the wind blew past it.

Madison slowly got out of the passenger seat of Spencer's car, and slammed the door.  The ride home was just as quiet as when they left.  They didn't say a word for each other, because both knew that if they did, then Madison would start to break down in tears again just like at the doctor's office.

It stung like a bee and it burned like a wild fire.  But it also felt empty and cold.  Madison couldn't really describe what she felt.  The only emotion that she could display however was sadness.  She couldn't display any other emotion.  I mean, what other emotion would she show?  Definitely, not happiness, but maybe, anger?  Angry at herself for letting this happen.   But what could she have done?  She ate healthy and exercised every day just for the sake of the baby, so what could've gone wrong?  She didn't do drugs.  She didn't drink.  Nothing.  Madison just didn't understand.

"Honey." Spencer whispered, putting a light hand on Madison's shoulder, waking her up from her thoughts.  "Let's go inside."  Spencer and Madison lived in a big Victorian house in the countryside, next to a big forest, away from any busy streets that might've brought harm to their once-future child.

Madison looked down at her feet, as her long, brown hair flew by her cheeks in the wind.  "No. I-I'm going to stay out here.  You go in."

Spencer looked a little shocked by her answer.  But then, slowly nodded, making his blond hair move with the motion of his head.  "I love you."  Spencer said. He closed his sapphire eyes, before planting a peck on Madison's right cheek.

Tears started to form in the corners of Madison's eyes.  "I-I love you too." She murmured.  And with that, Madison ran.  Where to, she didn't know.  All she knew was that she had to get away from it all; from all the pain and suffering that she was feeling at that moment.

After a few minutes of running further and further into the forest, Madison felt her legs get heavy with each step she took.  Her heart started to burn with exhaustion, as she decided to slow down.  She put both hands over her heart, feeling its rapid heartbeat.  Thump thump.  Thump thump.  Her heart beated.

Feeling her own heartbeat, she looked down at her stomach, and slowly lowered her hands to her gut, hoping for a miracle.  Sadly, there was no sound.  No pulse.  No trace that the doctor might've been wrong.  Madison sighed, and dropped her hands to her sides.

It was so unfair.  How come everyone else could have a child but not her?  She was the best babysitter in her neighborhood when she was a teenager, and she always volunteered to watch her baby sister when her parents went out.  Madison knew all of the techniques on which part of the back to pat when it needs to burp, what temperature the milk should be set at before allowing the baby to drink it, and most important of all, how to change a diaper.  It was just unfair!  Some of her friends got pregnant on accident and had thought about adoption for the kid before finally deciding to keep it.  It was just…

"Unfair!"  Madison screamed at the sky, making a few birds fly off the branches of the trees and into the distance.

Madison continued to stare up at the sunsetted sky, before letting her knees buckle together, and fall to the ground with a thud.  She raised her hands to her face and wept, hopelessly in them; hot tears seeping in between Madison's fingers before plopping to the dusty ground below.

Madison cried for what seemed like forever before letting out a huge exhale.  She looked behind her at the now tiny Victorian house in the distance.  Spencer was probably already inside, worrying about her and boiling up some coffee for the two of them.

She slowly started to get up, brushing the brown dirt off her tan capris.  "I'd better go."  She whispered to herself.  Madison sniffed, and whimpered, as she took a step toward her home, until she heard a faint cry.

Madison's back stiffened and her eyes widened in shock at what she was hearing.  It sounded like the cry of a child.  She swiftly turned around in search of the voice, but she couldn't see anyone and the voice was still crying, a little louder now.

Madison desperately, looked around for the voice.  "Hello?  Is anybody out there?"  She called.  The voice only continued to cry, obviously not hearing her.  It sounded so sad.

Madison couldn't take it anymore.  She had to find the owner of this voice.  Before thinking it through, Madison ran deeper into the forest, her house becoming a tiny spec, as she listened carefully to the direction of the voice.  The cries got louder as Madison kept moving forward.  She also noted, that it sounded a little masculine but also young.  Very young.

Madison didn't want to, but after feeling like she just ran a marathon, she stopped to catch her breath; her hands resting on her knees.  "Hello?  Please answer me!  I want to help you!"  Madison yelled to the voice, who once again didn't hear her, since it continued to cry.

Madison sighed.  Was her mind playing tricks on her?  Was it mocking her?  Making fun of her because of the death of the baby today?  Madison scoffed and turned away from the crying voice.  That was probably it.  Stupid head.  It was probably the heat and exhaustion getting to her from running so much.

Madison started to take a step toward home, but something stopped her again.  Not only did the crying get even louder, but she also felt small tremors in the ground below her feet.  Madison looked down and saw the ground starting to thump; stray pebbles bouncing higher up and down with each one.

Madison's eyes grew in confusion, as the tremors started to get bigger.  She slowly turned around, when at that moment, a giant foot came crashing down in front of her.  With the sudden footfall, Madison grunted, stumbled backwards, and fell on her butt; the only things supporting her were her elbows and forearms.  "Ow." Madison groaned, rubbing the side of her butt.  The sound of wailing brought her back to reality, as she slowly looked up and gasped with amazement.  Standing tall before her was a giant young boy, crying.
I thought this up a few nights ago, and thought I should give it a try. Hope you enjoy it. ^^
